Love it or hate it, e-mail is a powerful and popular communication tool. Regardless of your job description, e-mail likely takes up a significant portion of your day. One survey suggests that the average employee will spend at least two hours of every working day reading and responding to e-mail. Many other studies suggest that e-mail overload is a source of stress, lower productivity, and miscommunication in the workplace. Savvy communicators will do all they can to have e-mail work for them, not against them. While the “brain wrinkles” below are not hard and fast rules, pondering them and how they can apply in your workplace is time well spent.

Being self-employed can be risky as well as rewarding. Being self-employed requires that you wear multiple hats – some of them your strong suite and some of them a bit of a stretch. Being self-employed gives you the benefit of being your own boss. However, there is the added responsibility of being your own boss. Self-employment is not for everyone. However, everyone can learn a lesson or two when they think like the self-employed.
